Tour of Europe 2019
This year again we travelled through the rail tunnel and our first foray with our new electric bikes, our trips out with the bikes being limited to a few hours knowing Cassie our dog would be quite happy snoozing for that time, next year we have planned a dog cycle trailer so we can have a full day out together. With one overnight stop near the French town of St. Omar it was into Belgium and Germany to our first site at 'In Der Enz', still in Germany but close to the eastern border of Luxembourg, here we spent a few days exploring the area.
We had decided to head east towards Salzburg and south to Slovenia as the weather was a little on the chilly side with snow at one point on the main A8 near Rosenheim. At one of our sites before entering Austria the forecast was rain whichever direction we were heading, so decided to head into northern Italy and the Adriatic coast, but not before staying at Maltatal in Austria where we visited one of Austria's highest mountain dam and as the photo shows it was covered in snow. On the Adriatic coast near Grado we spent a week with warmer sunny weather whilst a great part of Europe was experiencing a lot of rain.
Our next destination was Ljubljana, the only site on the outskirt of the city was a little run down but suitable for a couple of days visiting the city by local transport. From here we headed to a site at Purbach, close to Vienna and the Hungarian capital of Bratislava where we cycled over the Austrian border into Hungary.
The weather really picked up now and we were going to be rewarded with a further 6 weeks of hot, sunny weather along with a short thunderstorm or two. This made us backtrack on our travels to visit Kranska Gora in Slovenia where only good weather would allow the walking and cycling to be enjoyed to its full.
Heading north with 4 weeks to go we stayed at Dobriach on the edge of Millstattersee in Austria, where striking up a good friendship with our Dutch neighbours we extended our stay twice. Together we spent time cycling, walking, eating out etc and filming them from the speedboat whilst they showed their skill at water skiing.
Cassie our dog is 10 years old now and her walks are getting shorter but still loves the streams and rivers to cool down in. She is now beginning to enjoy sleeping/resting as she enters her OAP status, but she is part and parcel of our holiday as much as we are to her.
Slowly heading north we stayed at various sites besides the rivers Maine, Rhine and the Moselle before heading back to our final site near Calais before catching the train to Folkestone.
