Our first trip out in a touring caravan was in 1997, we borrowed Carols parents caravan and towed it with a 1600cc Suzuki Vitara just to see if we would like it. The bug bit and eventually we bought our own 2 berth and I purchased a 2.6 V engined Vitara, it pulled nicely but 15mpg was not good so a Nissan XTrail diesel was next up. This gave me 40mpg solo and low 30's when towing.
Not enough room for us and the dogs so a 4 berth was purchased and everyone had a bed each, as it was a little heavier I swapped the XTrail in for a newer, more powerful engined model, a 2005 Nissan XTrail 2.2dci and a 1996 Sterling Europa 4 berth caravan.
We now use CL sites all the time as it gives us the peace and quiet and dog walks are nearly always close by. Oh and it's cheaper.
Well June 2010 brings us to a change of caravan, we now have a 2006 Award Brightstar 2 berth, this time the new dog can sleep on the floor, it also brings a new car, a MY11 reg Freelander 2 SD4.
The Freelander has been so good to me so I have now purchased another and replaced it with a new MY13 model SD4 XS, and on order a new Lunar Venus 500/4 as we got fed up making the bed each night and went for proper mattresses with fixed beds.
